You Can Now Check Your Credit (for Free) with Mint
Mint is a great online budgeting tool; in fact, it’s a reader favorite. And the site has just announced a new feature that lets you check your credit score.
In a blog post on the addition, Mint explained that the service is completely free and requires no credit card information. You get your score and a free credit report summary that explains what everything means, in simple terms.
They break down your report into categories:
Credit card usage
Age of credit
They also explain each category, tell you how much of an impact it has on your score, and then they give you a quick bit of advice.
Sometimes a credit pull can affect your score, but in this case, Mint assured us:
Checking your own credit score in Mint is what’s known as a “soft pull” and won’t affect your score.
To get your free score, you can login to your account, then click the “Accounts” link at the top of the page. Under the “Financial” tab, you should see a prompt to “Set Up Free Mint Credit Score.” Or, you can just use this link.
From there, enter a few easy questions and you’ll immediately get your score and report. Check out Mint’s blog post for more info on their new tool.
